What is a Website Marketing Strategy?

I was never a student in business administration much less had fun doing accounts no matter how easy it was in secondary school. But I grew to love the subject of marketing especially the creative and behavioral patterns involve in it. I never knew how exciting and challenging creative marketing could be to sell a product or service.

There isn’t a definitive term to website marketing strategy even after I tried to dig an answer out of Google. So here’s what I interpret of a website marketing strategy. It’s simply a plan to help market your website. The word market has different meanings but the core term we’re looking for is trading or selling.

So when I see website marketing strategy, it simply means a plan to sell or trade the items found on the website. Slowly by slowly we come to understand the meaning of this devious business terminology some companies use to attract clients.

What does a website marketing strategy contain?

To be honest, I don’t know. But to my knowledge, it’s selling, promoting, more selling and more promoting. So how do we sell and promote online? There are these available techniques or methods:

  • online advertising
  • some offline advertising
  • newsletters
  • blogging
  • reward systems (gifts, ebooks adn etc.)
  • search engine optimization
  • long sales letters?

These are few that are at the top of my mind. Is this really the website marketing strategy we can offer clients? Is this entirely different than optimizing their website to be more usable and accessible?

Are clients really hiring us to merely market their website and their product without providing the usability and accessibility concerned to their users?

  1. I think one of the most important things for website marketing touches on the branding part. Not just selling n promoting. For new startup .com companies which sells over the internet needs to build up its branding through website marketing. Of course selling and promoting is essential in it. One popular way i’ve seen on the uptrend is market it in popular blogs like sponsoring the blog writers for a space in their blog. That’s an easier way to reach targetted market segments.
    Other ways including search engines which is very important to enable the website to be ‘searchable’. Advertisement on the newspapers and magazines are feasible when the company grows bigger.
    My 2cents opinions.

  2. Thanks for sharing about the uptrend part of current marketing strategies used today.

    But I’m wondering isn’t sponsoring the blog writer in exchange for a space of advertising called promoting as well?

    Or is brand awareness a topic that stands on its own?

    Sorry, I’m quite the learner when its business topics. :P
