RM471.73 per WordPress Template

That’s the rough amount you might have to pay for a designed and coded template. These aren’t my rates but one of the offers I found from the Sitepoint Contests forum thread.

I believe most of you who are reading this are already wondering, why would anyone pay for just a blog redesign? Well, other than being able to fund for it, some people actually recognize the difference when hiring a professional to help them out.

The project details was very simple, [Coded Template] $175 For WordPress Template For CSS Reboot Launch.

The Requirements:
I’m looking for a wordpress coded template in CSS/XHMTL. The template should allow for wordpress plugins to be added.

Vision of the website:
The website will be a IT blog website of techie news and tips that I find on my travels.

Design and Layout:
I don’t really have any requirements in terms of colour scheme and layout. I recently ran a contest for a logo, which can be found at http://www.hamsterball.co.uk, so I would like the logo included somewhere in the design. Other than that, be creative!

These are the normal details provided by the topic starter that needs to be fulfilled by participating applicants gunning for the prize money. The money is normally assumed to be in US Dollars unless said otherwise.

Anyway, the whole purpose of me posting this is just to show anyone who wishes to hire me or another freelancer to design and code their weblog, please do not be surprised when we say it costs you around RM470.

And before your ‘moneymalice’ thoughts kick in, let me just say that You Get What You Pay. On a more positive note, be happy that if you approach a freelance designer/programmer you’ll get this price instead of the expected RM10K you need to pay companies.

  1. RM470 is an excellent deal for a pro designer. But its interesting to see how many bloggers are willing to pay for their blog to be designed. Part of the fun of blogging is tinkering around with the blog itself. :)

  2. lol seems like im undercharging. But we can’t always think of ourself, sometimes we need to make the price flexible to others as well.

  3. Well, as flexible a professional can be, he needs to understand that it can be bent to a limited length before it threatens itself and the others involved.

For instance, if the client asked you to bend the cost till RM200 with an excuse that he could find someone else or knows someone else who can do it cheaper, do you:

    A. Be flexible and go with it.
    B. Reject the client professionally.
    C. Flexibly bend the client back to RM350-400 because that’s your cost.

  4. I will suggest ‘C’! If the client still want to bargain, then go for ‘B’. Don’t spoil the market price!

  5. it depends who your client is as well. if corporate clients then can charge higher, but if you are dealing with individual bloggers will you charge RM400+ too?

  6. Pretty hard to say actually. Because those who actually ‘hire’ professionals means they have the budget for it.

If you want it free, do it yourself. If you want help, ask a friend or family member. If you want to succeed, hire a professional.

As much as I respect every client, every professional has a limited flexble value. So the question comes back again, how much are you willing to bend? :)

  7. I agree with EngLee’s point. I would reject the project if the budget is too low. If you charge low for one client, then that client introduce his friend to you, you can’t charge at your usual rate. This will create a negative impact on the market.

  8. i dunno what to say on the price… i’m not a profesional designer.. i havent even completed SPM but i charge normally for wordpress template for around RM 600 – 1.1k ..
agree with IVAN… it does seems too little..
