ROFL! Large generosity there, Ikram.

But yes, I do have to agree there can be no perfect layout. It's just most layout are easily found to be similar. Probably because they work as the 'perfect' layout for the targeted segment. :)

[How you would feel if you created the perfect e-commerce website layout?]

Dumbfounded of course. you crazy ah? where got such thing. After reading so many magazines, posts, articles and doing actual work, there can't be any PERFECT layout. it will always go back to how your users/online customers interact and buy stuff on your site. If you can increase revenue, increase $ per visitor, maybe less page loads and converts faster, then I guess that's a perfect layout. heck, if i designed a page, just text, no pictures but I tell you I get people to buy stuff from there, surely you wouldn't dub that the perfect layout right? heh.

Would you even try to innovate it?

why not? consumer behaviour changes through time. Like now, economy is perceived not so good and people want to save money. What a great way to start an online sale right? maybe add a new element on the home page for 'clearance rack! all must go!'

Web Innovation is not a necessity but usually part of some sort of web design evolution lah. i think.. ooh.. i sound too smart there for my own good. hah.

And, do you think there is even such a thing?
Oops. I answered this already.

Thanks for your comment and I do understand life sucks when you can't find a spoon fed answer to your question.

But here's the answer; there isn't a perfect e-commerce website layout. Even if there were, that is why I posed the questions to my industry readers on how they would handle it.

Probably next time I'll blatantly write; I is Rambling because life is suck without fun, so it makes more sense. :)

How you would feel if you created the perfect e-commerce website layout?
Well, I would be quite proud myself if I've created a near-perfect e-commerce website layout. That said, I think that it can only be measured by the increase of sales on the said website layout and real customer feedback.

Would you even try to innovate it?
Probably depends on the target market. The older audience might not enjoy something new or perhaps find the already-working layout perfect. With the younger audience, I would say there's always room for new innovation. Younger demographics are always interested in new things even if they are in betas. ;)

And, do you think there is even such a thing?
Exists. Probably not as much as in the web design industry but you see this being applied a lot in other industries. Heck. Think Apple?
