Not just selling n promoting. For new startup .com companies which sells over the internet needs to build up its branding through website marketing. Of course selling and promoting is essential in it. One popular way i've seen on the uptrend is market it in popular blogs like sponsoring the blog writers for a space in their blog. That's an easier way to reach targetted market segments. Other ways including search engines which is very important to enable the website to be 'searchable'. Advertisement on the newspapers and magazines are feasible when the company grows bigger. My 2cents opinions.
