P1 Wimax Increases Fair Usage Policy Limitations
It looks to me P1 is stepping up their game even more this 2009. Other than speaking to their users offline and communicating online through Low Yat forums, they’ve updated their wimax packages with higher fair usage threshholds.
Their previous visual didn’t include the fair usage threshold but now more is put upfront. Plus, it was understood the fair usage threshold previously was 20GB download and upload irregardless of the package you subscribed. But that is to change starting this 2009.
Though I wonder if they’ve already implemented the online usage tracking for subscribed users. Hmm, maybe I should get in touch with a friend of mine.

Yeah, would be great if they extended the coverage areas.
At least now they’ve got the voting thing going – power to the people.

Best people to ask are P1 themselves.
Then cast your vote to make it happen!
The area with the most accumulated votes will be the next P1 W1MAX coverage zone.
Vote for your area here:-

heard tat’s its unstable…
is the fair usage policy a selling point?
i wonder how other ISP control on users usage
@penn: you working in P1 issit?
@freshie: it’s not a selling point. their selling point is it’s better than most wireless providers whilst some even dare say better than Streamyx.
The fair usage policy is implement throughout all ISPs but P1 is the company who’s bringing it out in the open to the public right in their faces.
I am currently subscribing to the Plus package, am 500 m outside of coverage area, and my top download speed is 150KB/sec even without using download accelerator. even after using more than 20GB last month i still enjoy fast dl/ul speed.
I will never subscribe to streamyx again unless they improve the crappy connection and the lousy customer service
.
BTW i am not working for p1 nor do i have fren or family there. hehe
Ok thosse of you thinking about it, here are the pros and cons cos I have tried it.
CONS:
-It is Unstable.
-It is NOT as fast as Spore’s basic net provider speed.
-If u opt for the LITE 400kbps, the diff betw wifi and this is MINIMAL.
-If u opt for the PLUS u will find the RM99 per month not really worth upgrade.
-Your connection is desk based cos it relies on the cable hence laptop connectivity is only possible if u are stationery at one place ie, next to a plug point really.
-Unless u hv signed up, there is no way of assessing your usage, so its your word agnst theirs as to whether u pay the extra. And u can only check by going in to their building to check, not via phone, which is a bit 3rd world right? But i am told that once u sign up, you can assess your usage.
-Download speed is not always as high as you wd like to think.
-Speed is down at high traffic hours of all service providers like lunch hour and weekends.
-Cable is not really that long so unless your desk or table is near a plug point, hmmm!
-Not really sure how soon you will hit your fair usage threshold after which Shtinggg – you will be charged.
PROS:
-Nice phone and personal customer service
-It IS FASTER than wifi and our older service providers but not really that much – it is not speed at the speed of thought, there is some waiting around
Hey Danny,
Whoa.. now creating a blog in P1? Haha..
I’m using the Plus package as well but it’s sad to say that I’m getting a bit frustrated having to deal with super slow speed especially at night to wee hours… apparently they’re configuring the hub signals due to interferences for I don’t know how long more.
Also, P1 does not come with port forwarding like streamyx so downloading through bit torrent has very crappy download speeds. They’re planning to install sometime this year but then again don’t know when.
I really hope P1 won’t disappoint the users as this is another reasonable alternative broadband price other than streamyx.
