Flash Movies in Danger due to MS Update
I don’t want to be caught in a controversial act so I’m going to spell MS once and it’s not going to be in its actual name so you’ve got to figure it out yourself; M1CR0$0F7 (MS). That’s right, I just received a public service message from Kevin Airgid about the peril about to befall Flash interactive movies.
It’s nothing of a huge issue but it will cause some annoyances and setbacks to the lovable interactive Flash movies you’ve been creating or playing.
The truth of the matter might be questionable but it’s better to prepare for the worst if anything does happen. Just so everyone knows, MS was faced with a lawsuit back in 2004 and the update coming will be made to its IE ActiveX Update to resolve the case.
The main expected thing that will be caused by this update is the, prevention of interaction with embedded content. (clicks/rollovers)
You won’t be able to:
- View funky Flash rollover button effects. (unless clicked to activate)
- Flash navigation will be inactive. (unless clicked to activate)
- Flash music will play continuous. (unless you clicked to activate and clicked again to pause)
- Flash ads will play and not get blocked. (you’ll need to click to activate the Close and click again to Close)
Other than Flash, the added information I’ve found out the update from Baekdal.com said that the inactive controls even affect embedded movies like Media Player, Quicktime and etc.
The solution suggested isn’t difficult but troublesome to have websites with these embedded objects, add them via an external Javascript file.
