Building Websites with an Apple Macintosh
Ha! Thought I was going to teach you Macromedia Dreamweaver using an Apple Macintosh, huh? Well, that will happen as soon as I get enough funding for either a MacBook Pro or an iBook 14″ at least.
I was visiting Josh Lockhart’s website after being redirected from CSSImport. I noticed that they catered to something called RapidWeaver themes. I’ve heard of Dreamweaver but not RapidWeaver so naturally I had to find what was this all about.
RapidWeaver by Real Mac Software is a USD34.95 piece of software for easy website creation – definetely cheaper than Dreamweaver.
It’s few features of the software are:
- Theme based design
- Create beautiful Flash slideshows from your iPhoto albums
- Live PHP rendering
- XHTML and CSS Strict compliance
- Built-in error checking
- Single click publishing either to your .Mac or FTP
- Drag-n-Drop audio file function for quick Podcast setup
- Big community for support queries
- Other 3rd party applications available..etc
For the small price you’re paying for a very basic What You See Is What You Get (WYSIWYG) software, I think this could be a second option when anyone questions their ability or budget of needing a Content Management System (CMS).
I can’t provide a full review of the RapidWeaver website creation tool as of yet without an Apple machine. However, any Apple Macintosh users who’ve tried this software do drop a line for the rest of us.
I think I’ll still prefer Dreamweaver but as I said, if you don’t have enough budget for a custom CMS then here’s your second best option for the time being. Find out exactly how easy this tool is in creating a website (I know I shouldn’t be doing this) via a video podcast by ScreenCastsOnline Video Podcast. Even I don’t believe it after watching it.
