The Power of The Internet

toolsMy constant hiatus now should be blamed on my clients. They’re crazy, I tell you! But, thank you Arori for asking Simpleet to setup Full High Definition Club online. There are other clients I’d like to thank on behalf of Simpleet for their business but they’re still in the works. Albeit having crazy clients, we do it simple…we do it right. Thanks, Hawk.

Now; how many of you have realized how powerful is the Internet? Well, here’s my story of realization when I could have fixed my Panasonic air conditioner (AC) on my own – if I could. It all started when the machine started turning itself off. I started trying to fix it by turning the power on and off, resetting the remote, resetting the AC via remote, and…even used the Internet to find out what was wrong.

With the help of Google (I love them), I got a lead on how to check for the error my AC was suffering. After downloading a PDF manual online, I found out how to use my remote to troubleshoot my own AC. The manual was somewhat easy to understand and within five minutes, I managed to locate the error. It displayed the error code; 16H.

The next problem now was to find out what the error code meant. I’m no AC technician, so it was back to Google to shed some light on the problem. It was a little challenging to search such a generic phrase but with few additional keywords did the trick; Panasonic, air conditioner, and error codes. The 16H error code for the Panasonic air conditioner meant:

Outdoor Current Transformer open circuit

Primary location to verify: Outdoor PCB

Holy crap! It’s an electronic problem with the machine. NO! I’m going to be sweating all night for the next couple of days! Argh!

And trust me, the next thing I did was Google for a solution. Heck, I managed to get this far with the help of Google. All I need is maybe some technician or other person who experienced the same problem and fixed it on his own to tell others about it. Sigh…even Google couldn’t help me now.

So the next morning I called an authorized Panasonic AC technician to check out the problem. He confirmed it and told me they’ll have to bring back the outdoor unit (big box outside) to Panasonic for repairs.

If only I could have used the Internet to know how to fix the problem, I would have. But I guess, then we wouldn’t need trained technicians anymore.

Have you ever fixed something you didn’t know by only using the Internet?
