Malaysia Bloggers Buff 2007

I seriously have no idea where to start with this event come workshop come forum which was organized by Mahendran with the help of Putera MIC. Therefore, I’m actually going to turn this into a 2-part entry to cover the first Malaysia Bloggers Buff 2007 event.

The introduction of this event was solely to get bloggers of different genres together, explore various aspects of blogging and to constructively discuss issues relating to the Malaysia blogosphere; responsible blogging.

In a nutshell, the Bloggers Buff 2007 event had a few things going on. They were:

  • Blogger Networking – Know the blogger
  • Why Blog? by Yvonne Foong
  • The story of Nuffnang by Timothy
  • Forum: Responsible blogging; by the panel:
    • Dato’Ahmad Talib ( Ex-NST GroupEditor)
    • P.Kamalanathan (Putera MIC)
    • Li Tsin (Malaysiakini)
  • Food

Bloggers Buff 2007I took 2-pages of notes on my Macbook – yes, there was so much juicy information. Probably that’s the main reason I need to break this into 2 entries. But I can’t summarize it all as in my personal opinion, it’ll be unworthy of what was done during and in the event by the bloggers and the organizers.

However, I’m going to cover as much about the points above and will write the second entry more garnered on the topic of responsible blogging. Even after 3 years of blogging, I never knew the whole topic of responsible blogging could be discussed liberally in the forum.

Blogger Networking
This part was to get bloggers to socialize with others. Break the rules of being anonymous and start to build a relationship with one another. Not to mention it gives you free publicity thus generating a short wave of blog traffic for you.

Why Blog?
The next speaker practically moved the whole room of listeners to the front. No one I believe could do this with so much heart and honesty like Yvonne Foong. She told her story of how she came about blogging and how it helped changed her life in continuously to move forward in life. In addition, all the friends she has gained to support her everyday online and offline whenever she sees them. My hat is of to you, Yvonne.

The story of NuffNang
Two friends, a joke website, a treat to roast duck at Four Seasons London and a little time saw the birth of NuffNang. I won’t go into details about that but letTimothy Tiah (co-founder) tell you all about it in his recent blog entry; My Speech at Bloggers Buff.

Forum: Responsible blogging
Malaysia bloggers are slowly maturing and I believe with the help of bloggers (like our panel) can help move the local blogosphere further into practicing responsible blogging. Not to mention, every blogger should attend the next forum on this because we’re going to revise what we’ve said and how we’ve found it changing the way we now blog.

Bloggers Buff 2007 GroupieBefore I sign off here’s a groupie we took before the end of the event. And there was a surprise appearance by Kennysia whom you might want to know was there because of some airplane trouble. I’ll let him tell you all about it later. Thanks Mike for taking the photo.

Phew! Imagine what I’ll have to talk about on the forum and responsible blogging.
