Finally Something New

In terms of a blog layout in the realm of the blogosphere. I picked it up while reading up at Rachel’s Designer Blogs. A little about Rachel, she’s a website designer that specialises in blog designs. Find that far fetched? Well, that’s the discussion everyone would have when that question is raised. However, the main difference I’ve noted is that blog designers sometimes have a plan to offer clients, blog maintenance. :) You could visit her blog, HERE.

Now, I was speaking about a new blog layout I’ve found online. Well, I’m not sure if the lot of you have seen it but it’s definetely new to me. It’s very clean and it’s header, well, there isn’t a banner if you were assuming that. And you’d be intrigued by the smart usage of space and the organization of the content. In one word, sweet! :D Visit the weblog of ‘Pen and Think’; HERE.

Websites For You

To visit that has been scoured by getting lost in this space they call, The Internet. Cutting to the encounters of the manga kind, we have up front a new presentation of manga to the masses. It’s weird that they used Flash to present this thing as nothing was actually animated in a toon style manner. If you’re just eager to read, I mean, view it, then head on HERE to watch Encounter: Chapter 1.

Now, we’re finally in May. That means that the May 1, Reboot event has started the gears. Everyone is unveiling their latest dastardly creations to the world. Old ideas and new ideas become one and p00f! it turns into a website. Anyway, I’ve no interest in those at the official website. I prefer looking at THESE. The only Malaysian I know on the list is Chee Aun.

And if you’re too lazy to scroll through that list, you can view at this person’s website HERE. Love the clean and simple design implemented. This is what you call a layout of some experimental purpose with CSS. :D

Amazon Changed

Their Navigation and made their search function more prominent. Previously, they used lots of tabs for their categories and their search was placed on the left. Now, the website only starts with 3 tabs. Right below the navigation, you’ll be able to find the search there in front of you. I don’t think Amazon would make a mistake to their search, because when you type in something, the size of it is like a 14px Arial or even bigger. 0.0

A nifty function they’ve added to their 3rd tab that contains all the categories, when you mouseover, a window animates out. I’m not sure if it’s Flash and I can’t really say if it’s JScript too. Now, whenever you search under a specific category, an additional tab is added to the toolbar. Therefore, this helps them eliminate its previous clutter problem. Well done, Bravo!

Overall, I found those are the only components that have changed. It’s good to know that there was room for improvement still for the giant online store. Though I feel the one disturbing bit of the website is the banner that sits directly below the search panel. Its content is always centered and does not span the whole bar. As mentioned by Jakob Nielsen once in one book, it’s a waste of space.

But still, kudos on a job well done to the people who improved on Amazon. *applause*

Cool PanicGoods

Function at their apparel store. Not only is the online store very easy to use, their drag method is uber cool. I don’t have to say much of this because it’s just astounding stuff. :)

Head on HERE and have a go.

72

Isn’t a house number but a website number. Alright, that might’ve sounded a little wrong but it still is a great website. It houses a designer’s weblog and portfolio like the many already out there. However, many of you should know I like plugging websites that have intrigued me. :)

This one is as stunningly simple and clean like any other. Its blue and black theme has made me envy that it just had to bring peace to my mind. Though for content holding, I don’t really agree with the layout. What do you think?
