About the gender thing, I personally haven’t seen much women in the field globally. I don’t mean the blogosphere alone, since I am not a pro/casual blogger.

I’ll hit you up on MSN about the investment stuff.

As for the investment, I know a personal friend who’s in this and she’ll allow you to start investing from RM50 onwards. Why you can start so low? Top up every month to accumulate enough to start investing big.

After all, higher investment equals to higher returns later.

As to seeing less women in this, I really don’t think so since we have ChanLilian leading the way for female housewife bloggers.

So everyone wants to jump onto the bandwagon.

Unfortunately not everyone is on the right track. I am seeing some of my highschool juniors starting business online. I’m starting to feel bad for them when I saw their website on Tripod/Geocities with ads all over (not even their own ads.)

The internet can a gold mine, but it is really not for everyone. I am not sure if I can say this is common sense.

Lately I’m learning about investments and I am so tempted to get a book about it (recommended by a friend.) Just today I’m holding back and try to Google for it instead. It’s mainly because I’m quite stingy.

Being a total noob all over again, some of these things are really quite tempting. You see, I can buy the book and read from A to Z, or cluelessly look all over the net and guide myself up.

The first choice always look better for me as a noob because the first thing I know is that I don’t know a thing.

A book isn’t that expensive therefore I might just get one but to my surprise, seminars like these actually costs RM1000+ and that is too much.

Worth it? For me no way. Who is more likely to pay for the seminar or workshop? Average jane and joe definitely, but personally I see less women in this.

Hmm, that could mean a few things from the scenario you’ve described.

1. Blog interfaces are not user-friendly though already simple.
2. Blog clutter is very obvious to non-bloggers.
3. New bloggers wouldn’t mind paying to quickly learn the ropes of effective blogging.
4. Older (I had to use the word) age-groups are more willing to spend on learning how to setup or use a blog.

Very very interesting findings. Thanks for sharing as it helped open a new sight for me. Now I really have to think if my new blog design can overcome the first 2 things.

This brings me to a new question. Who is more likely to pay for the seminar or workshop? The women or the men?

But then newbies probably wouldn’t know that. We know it because we’ve been on the Net for quite awhile and have been reading other blogs too. Most bloggers would have posted about this at one time or another since bloggers tend to be concerned about attracting more traffic, whether they are maintaining personal blogs or more topic-specific blogs.

You’d be surprised how a complete newbie has much difficulty in navigating the Web, nevermind finding info like this. My mom asked me how to make a comment on my brother’s blog and I said just click on the word “Comment”, which is at the end of every post. She still didn’t get it and I had to go through with her right from the beginning: “First, you see the date, then the big title of the post in brown, then the post itself, and at the end, in small wording, ‘Posted by XXX at 10:10am 4 comments’. Click on ‘comments’ and a box will pop up and you get to read other people’s comments. You can input your own comment at the bottom of that box.” Only then did she manage to do it.

To such people, all things Internet are such a mystery that they wouldn’t even think of looking for such information on the WWW.
