Do You Read Your Spam Emails?

spam luncheon meatTrust me. When I heard a friend of mine said he reads his spam (junk) emails, it was only half the shock I got from him. When he told he reads them, I just kept thinking which ‘cuckoo’ user reads their junk email. For me, once it’s in there I’m done with it. Normally, I won’t bother going into the junk folder unless necessary.

But here’s the killer when I was discussing this with my friend. He said junk emails is one of the wonders of technology. Gosh! When he told me that, I only had a blank expression on my face while in my mind repeated; WTF! What the f…! WHAT THE FCK!

I was simply lost for words albeit telling me more people should appreciate spam because it updates them (him) of the latest news and technology. As far as I know, the only latest thing about spam is its unrelated and unrequested email content in my inbox.

Therefore, I defended my principles saying business people don’t have the time to read junk mail. If you have 20-50 legit emails mixed up with 80-100 junk emails, you end up wasting time deleting the unwanted emails.

Plus, I told him purchasing third party emails from others isn’t a good practice - I‘d report them to MCMC if they gave a damn. And as long as I can remember, what you didn’t know about spam isn’t a good thing.

Nonetheless, do you read your junk emails?

No, but I do scan through mails in the junk folder. There are times when legit email caught into junk folder.

I read ‘em when I need a good laugh. :D

  3. Response #3 by Wan Kong Yew on February 28th, 2008

No. But I get far less spam mail than spam comments on my blog. I do read those sometimes.

  4. Response #4 by Hin Ching on February 28th, 2008

I do not except the occasional peek right before I clear my spam folder. But apparently some people do–they create art from it.

I don’t read them thoroughly but I scan them thru via their title of the e-mail because at times, legit e-mails might accidentally end up in Junk Mail folder.

    geminigeek:
Yup, that’s the only time (or reason) I look into it.

    chee aun:
Urm, got jokes in the junk mail mer? o.0

    kong yew:
With SK2 and Akismet, there’s not really any spam to worry about. Unlike the 1-2 that somehow gets through.

    hin ching:
Now, that’s some good use of paper. Except if it degrades later someone will be left only their bras and panties. LOL!

    chong:
Well, that’s what I do as well. However, my friend actually opens up to read them. -___-

Uh, spam emails do sound funny if you haven’t read them for like, few months? Their grammar and vocabulary are amazing :D

  8. Response #8 by Kitkat on February 28th, 2008

No, I delete spams straight away.

LOL! My junk mail are full of “penis enlargement” thingy and there’s no point for me to read it…

    chee aun:
You’ve a weird sense of humour, dude. LOL!

    kitkat:
Attaway, man. Say no to spam.

    yung:
Well, most guys are happy with their penises….right?

  11. Response #11 by flisterz on February 29th, 2008

the first filter i create in my gmail is to directly delete email with word “penis”

btw maybe spams can be used for some creative ideas. Like this one. Shes making money by selling them too!

  12. Response #12 by Danny Foo on February 29th, 2008

Urm, I don’t have filters setup in Gmail as I expected Google to have been smart enough to filter those common things already. But if your friend does send an email with something pen-is in the email, it might get filtered right?

Well, I’d buy her art not because of the spam subject lines but because they’re hand painted stuff. :)

  13. Response #13 by flisterz on February 29th, 2008

i do scan through my spam folder. So with that filter, my task would be much easier. :) i dont expect any of my friend sending email about pen-is though -_-

  14. Response #14 by Wan Kong Yew on March 1st, 2008

I’ve just received a spam mail with the coolest subject line ever:

Bigger than Edison! Bigger than life!

  15. Response #15 by Aisyah on March 1st, 2008

I don’t read them but I do take a peek. I read the subjects and the snippets you know, gmail. Some of the subjects are funny I laughed my socks off. but I don’t bother to open the spam mails, tho.

  16. Response #16 by ikram_zidane on March 4th, 2008

i do have to search for “message from ikram-zidane.com” to scan messages from my contact form. Don’t really know why gmail classified those as spams. If i marked those messages as not spam, other notifications from my website will also be unspammed.

so, pretty much all my bussiness so far came from my trash bin. LOL…

  17. Response #17 by James on March 6th, 2008

    SPAM emails are damn important!

They will let you know the best deal to enlarge your penis, LOL.

    flisterz:
    You’re lucky then. :P

    Kong Yew:
I suppose everyone is really using him as much as possible right now.

    Aisyah:
The only time I ever scanned them was either I knew something ended up in there or I was purely bored without any work - which doesn’t happen often.

    ikram:
    You’ve got a spam-my business. LOL!

    James:
Which have you tried so far then? ROFL!
