Aussie Website Appeal

Is the latest hype for me right now. I’ve recently realized the many studios in Australia churning out really awesome designs and you know what’s even better? They’re fully web standards compatible. Dang! Anyone can pass me studios/company websites that conform to all this based in Singapore or Thailand or Philippines or even Brunei. Why?

Well, let’s just say I want to see if Malaysia is really that slow in adapting something like this. Before you start flaming or opening your mouth to complain that there are websites like that, I know there are but how many really follow it as professional as Quo Consulting I’m wondering? You can visit their website HERE.

Malaysians terribly need to get their act together and study the importance of beneficiting from a website. Their belief of a website is just a website is totally killing the industry.

WWW or just .COM

Was what I’ve just learned about from the article I read HERE. Of course a website address is www.your-domain.com but did you realize that you can sometimes also access your website via your-domain.com. Still not surprised? Well, I’ve come across some Malaysian websites that disallow the use of your-domain.com and one such example belongs to TGV. Try typing the URL tgv.com.my without the www and you won’t be able to enter their website.

Anyway, so what’s so important about having a WWW or not in your domain? Ah-ha! Well, I ain’t going to tell cause I want you to read the original article. However, here’s a snippet:

..you are showing the search engines .. your site is serving up duplicate content..

Interested in knowing more and how to curb the problem? Well, then proceed on and read the article, HERE.

Hail Originality

From the evolution of many different references. Don’t get it? Then read on and you shall find out. Though I’m sure some might have already guess what I’d be talking about.

You know how many designers or clients or people put forth the claim, “that’s original..” Well, it isn’t really. I think we’ve come a longer way from decades ago to claim something as original anymore. I think originality has become extinct on its own. We might’ve gave birth to originality ever since the discovery of anything new but in the world of design today, I’m truly believing the word original shouldn’t exist anymore.

Commenting or stating someone’s work online for original shouldn’t be taken as a totally new idea. It should be understood as an evolved idea or concept that has been churned out from the designers mind through the process of their senses. There isn’t just one method to generating an idea. Some people think about an idea, get lost, have a new idea, get lost again and end up finding a better idea for the first.

What I’m getting at is the last step of such a process, which is the Illumination process. The state when our mind just hits it off with something unique though it’s really just an evolution of what we’ve thought about with extras added after the absorption from our surroundings.

If you’re already very much confused, all I’m trying to say is that though designers might have works that resemble someone else’s, they’re not exactly a copy. A copy would mean every single element has been repeated and this is the same though elements have been rearranged in a minor manner. For instance, if someone used my design but moved the search to the left, it should be considered a copy. If the person shrunk the search, placed it to the left and improved it in design then that is an evolution of an idea.

I hope you’re understanding this post of how originality today is more related to evolution than the originality years of before. We’re inspired by other peoples works. We’re inspired by our surrounding. We then use our senses to help evolve an idea we have into something we might call original if we, ourselves, haven’t come across it. On the Internet today in terms of design, I don’t think there’s really anything ‘oldly’ original.

Shaun Inman

Has done it again. Speaker in SXSW and one of the reknown gurus for web standards has yet astonished with his fresh looking website. It’s more content focused than as of before and usability, *muah like a French person*, truly an artist of the Internet.

His search is really new to me and I think it’s one of the best implementations I’ve seen for it. And I thought the search just couldn’t get better. Well, he’s definetely proved me wrong and shoved it back at me. :) Though I highly receive it with a very welcoming response because his redesign is just awesome.

I noticed that many new websites are really experimenting more with layout. I’m not talking about huge graphics or using themes like newspapers, I’m talking about websites that are presenting content as though you’re right now reading an online brochure.

Shaun’s someone right now who I’m looking upward and pushing me towards a higher expectation of myself. I want to be able to provide solutions like him and surpass him if possible. Argh! If you don’t think he’s got madskillz yet, visit his website HERE.

4 Friends with 1 Passion

Has let them maintain their friendship through the Internet. Sure there are instant messengers and web cameras but what fun is that when you want to share your experiences in different countries with the world? So what do they do? They develop a website that all four of them share and not only can you choose which of the people’s life to follow, the graphics on the website is kickass.

I’m quite curious what publishing engine they’re using though. Hmm..anyway, feel free to visit their website, HERE.
