Arachnid

Is a Malaysian based multimedia company who does quite alot of website projects. Alike other companies, they provide solutions from e-marketing to website revamps. Anyway, it’s been really long since I visited their website and it’s took a huge turn.

The website is still Flash driven but the concept behind it is familiar to me. I’ve seen one Japanese website use something alike that. It’s nothing really new in terms of technology and presentation in Flash online. However, the good usage of it should be more a concern for many. Because they don’t have an easier navigation option, you’ll have to explore their presentation to get to your goal.

Overall, I think Arachnid still did quite a good job though this website isn’t worth winning an award. You can visit their website, HERE.

Minor Changes

To the dF website. Alright, you all must notice the theme now is around the website. Except of course the Search page and maybe some of the comment templates, just too lazy to do anything to them at this moment. If I’m too bored then I’ll sort the search template out later.

I’m actually quite honored to have one of MTs elite come by. He’s none other than Jay Allen. Author of MT-Blacklist for one and also the new product manager in SixApart since 2004. :) Quite happy cause it’s like my website does have an existence.

Actually, the past half hour or more, I was trying to sort out the commenter-profile image border. Most MT users would know that you just need to issue a .commenter-profile {border-width: 0;} to solve the problem. However, in my case it was a goose chase. I was authoring the CSS style, Individual Entry template and also the Context.pm temaplate. 0.0

Because I’ve already classified IMGs in my left DIV, I needed to be more specific in addressing the commenter-profile. The code I had to use was, #left .commenter-profile img {border-width:0;}. It’s a mouthful but it was a thing I overlooked.

Other than my sad lil website over here, why not cheer yourself up by heading over to this HERE. Love the implementation of its collapsing function. ;)

MT 3.16 NoFollow

Wasn’t documented on the MT website. Because now the plugin comes together with this version, they forgot to mention something as important as this:

Upload or copy these files into your Movable Type directory, and set the permissions of the mt-nofollow.cgi script to 755.

For Movable Type 3.x, upon proper installation, you will see a new “Nofollow” plugin listed on the Main Menu of your Movable Type installation.

Note that if you are upgrading from the first release of this plugin, you should remove the old version first to avoid having two copies installed that may conflict with one another.

I believe this was a very important thing that they forgot to mention. If you do not set the permissions correctly, it’ll give you an Internal Server Error later.

Cheers.

p/s: The ShoutMix shoutbox will be down for awhile because of the server load the author is going through, they’re being investigated for resource abuses under their host. Major bummer not only cause he’s my friend but for a service like this that he has done, it’s made many smiles with his shoutbox. Hope everything gets back on track, Snecx. Best of luck.

MT Workflow

Is a new plugin by David Raynes that allows an adimistrator to limit the publishing rights of authors. Nifty for big group blogs that has many authors and when you recruit new people, you don’t want them simply posting so this plugin even provides article reviewing capabilities before publishing. A funny feature which I still don’t quite get is authors can transfer ownership of a post to other authors.

When reading the article on MTs website HERE, I thought this plugin was like licensed and needs to be paid before being able to use it. However, no worries as the commercial version benefits a user in circumstances like official support channel that guarantees a turn around time of 48 hours, early access to beta releases and optional promotion on the Workflow page as a Workflow user.

Alike MT, the only major thing missing I suppose is the official support stuff. Though this product won’t benefit those blogs with a single author, I’m pretty sure it’ll be great for those who purchased MT and have a group. :)

Wanna Start A Real Blog?

Then take some time off whatever you’re doing and read up The Blogger’s Primer at Sitepoint. It’s informative and tells of what an actual blog really is. Unlike mine that’s based more on my life. :P Oh well, a method of communicating with my parents as I don’t really email often.

Anyway, this website will be more content focused after I’m done here in Melbourne. New and deeper meaning will be brought to my blog later so hope everyone will look forward to it. ;)

Cheers.
